Exclusivity; the benefit of prospective employees registering exclusively with a recruitment consultancy
Case 1:
An immediately available qualified ACCA candidate registered with Wavelength following an extensive meeting and interview at the Wavelength offices. During this meeting we agreed a plan of action and set specific timescales as to when the candidate could expect feedback and results.
We then prepared a full CV and marketing information and approached only the most appropriate sized businesses with the most relevant business style and who could offer the best progression for this particular candidate. Having identified several suitable vacancies we then proceeded to arrange three interviews with firms offering the better opportunities and fitting the candidate’s criteria.
These interviews were arranged close together to limit the amount of time spent travelling and attending meetings. Then following a full briefing of the firm, the interviewers and the role, the candidate attended the interviews, securing offers of employment from all three firms at an appropriate salary level.
With our assistance resolving final queries and offering sound unbiased advice, the candidate accepted one of the roles and commenced work with the firm.
Case 2:
A finalist ACCA candidate working for a small independent firm of accountants began a search for a new position prior to his final exams in December. The candidate arranged to meet a Wavelength consultant in their offices and following an interview was advised to consider postponing their search until after the exams, at which point he would have a greater chance of passing the exams as there would be no interference with studies time of f work and stress of interviews. Once the exams were over and the results were received the candidate would be in a position to apply for a role which would offer a progression from his current role and also provide necessary post qualification experience. It was suggested that a move before the exams would provide only a side step and could delay his progression in the longer term.
The candidate went away to consider this and decided to take wavelengths advice. Having passed his exams he made contact again with Wavelength who following the original meeting had already prepared a CV and marketing information and were in a position to commence a search immediately.
Wavelength secured interviews with mid tier/top 20 firms and was subsequently offered a position which he accepted. This role offered long term progression, relevant post qualification experience including greater audit experience and a market rate salary increase.
By not registering with any other agencies the candidate was able to take control and make the choice to put the job search on hold until after the exams as well as reduce the number of CVs going out clients ensuring only the most relevant clients saw it. He also minimised the risk of his employer finding out his intention to move by allowing Wavelength to maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
The benefits
Patience; Why securing the right role is worth the wait
Case 1:
A candidate registered exclusively with Wavelength having decided to relocate. He was an ATII qualified candidate looking to move into a tax role with a larger firm offering long term progression as well as being within reasonable travelling distance.
With the number of suitable tax roles being infrequent it was important confidentiality was maintained in order to keep all options open for as long as possible, it was also important his CV was not sent out to every possible firm by many different agencies, giving the impression he was desperate to make a move.
Wavelength, in consultation with the candidate would also have to decline interviews which were not right. By maintaining confidentiality he would be able to re-apply to the same firm when a more suitable role arose.
Our search for the right role was continuous over a period of 6 months, ensuring that only the most relevant roles were considered, eventually identifying the ideal role within 10 minutes of his new home and with the tax department of a Top 10 firm.
Case 2:
A former Partner left Practice for a move into Industry and unfortunately after a few years was made redundant. He had registered with a number of agencies in order to secure a position back in Practice and was being put forward to numerous unsuitable positions where his chances of success were remote due to the type of role, firm, location, prospects etc and his confidence was low.
The candidate was looking for a very specific role offering responsibility with a small owner managed independent practice without the pressure of full partnership. He decided to deregister from all other agencies and registered with Wavelength who took on board all of these factors and with the benefit of being able to consider all geographic locations without the politics of numerous offices were able to locate a role in the neighbouring county, with a small independent firm of accountants looking for a commercial manager to help develop the practice.
He was never sent on any unnecessary interviews, subjected to frequent briefings of unsuitable positions, he was only approached with the most relevant positions. The entire process was prolonged and in-depth and required patience on the part of the candidate which was rewarded by a successful placement with his current firm.
